NEW YORK — Saima: “They Say I Say introduces people to making better arguments and how to be a better writer. It’s one of the first writing books I’m reading and it’s helping me so much. Making a good argument is important. On the train, people will say things about my hijab to me. I was going home from middle school one day, and a group of girls used profanity and spoke down to me. At first I didn’t say anything, but then it got to me and I responded. I told them that I understood where they were coming from but that what they’re thinking is not the entire story. Usually my mom tells me to stay quiet but the thing is that I’m not the type of person who will hear something ignorant and not speak up.” #TheySayISay by #CathyBikenstein #GeraldGraff / @theubc for #subwaybookreview #newyork ?

I had the best morning sitting at coffee shops, exploring bookstores, and catching up with Mariah (@layoversandliterature). ✨ I love it when she gets a flight to San Francisco (this is the second time we’ve gotten to see each other, and I’m already looking forward to next time!). ✈️ I have made some lovely friendships because of this community, and I’m so so grateful for it. • So in honor of this #unofficialbookstagramfriendshipappreciationday, I ask you: who are some of your favorite people that you’ve met through bookstagram? @layoversandliterature, @literaryjo, and @mixedbagofbooks are three of my favorites, and I just think it’s so cool that our love of books brought us together, and that this weird little corner of Instagram made our friendships possible. ?‍♀️??✨
